Cocoa Beach skater fifth at X Games

Cocoa Beach skater fifth at X Games STAFF REPORTS STAFF
STAFF REPORTS
LOS ANGELES -- Cocoa Beach's Adam Taylor didn't get much air time, literally or figuratively on Thursday night at the Big Air Skate competition at X Games 14 at the Staples Center.
But that was OK with the 18-year-old phenom, who placed fifth in a star-studded finals before a sold-out crowd.
"I think he's stoked to get to the finals," said his father, Toby, who attended the X Games with his family. "He's just a puppy compared to most of these guys. But it's a pretty good pay day."
Brazil's Bob Burnquist emerged victorious for the second year in a row, soaring 20 feet on his fifth and final ride to hand Danny Way his first loss in four X Games. Burnquist won 96.00 to 94.00 after Way had remarkably shaken off two serious falls -- one in practice earlier in the day.
Taylor managed 34.66 points to finish behind third-place finisher Jake Brown (91.33) and Andy Macdonald (83.33).
Taylor, the youngest in the field, had to earn the final spot in qualifying, beating out seven others earlier in the day. All but one of his runs were during commercials in the nationally-televised event.
"Right now, he's getting iced down," Toby said. "He's just been taking a pounding out there every day."
That pounding led to a sprained ankle during a practice on Monday. He received laser treatments by Dr. David Chow, the San Diego Chargers team doctor who was assisting X Games participants.
All six competitors in the finals used the 70-foot gap instead of the 50-foot gap Adam used in the preliminaries.
"So much more speed, so much more craziness," Toby said.
Adam, fifth on the AST Dew Tour rankings, will compete in Portland, Ore., later this month and has been invited to participate in another Mega Ramp event in Brazil in November.
"He's gonna take it easy for a while," Toby said.

Sessions Presents The 10th Annual Time Brauch Memorial Contest

Sessions Presents The 10th Annual Tim Brauch Memorial Contest September 27 - 28, 2008Scotts Valley, CA, August 25, 2008- For the past nine years, Sessions has held the Tim Brauch Memorial Contest in memory of Tim Brauch who was one of the most respected skateboarders and beloved Sessions’ team riders of all time. His love for skateboarding, friends, and fun inspired everyone who met him. Tim’s untimely passing in 1999 at the age of 25 (read more about him on www.timbrauch.com), led Sessions to create the Tim Brauch Memorial Fund, which donates 100% of the funds towards skateboard park development and scholarships. One such donation went to create the Tim Brauch Memorial Skatepark in Scotts Valley, CA that hosts both the street and bowl events annually. A switch for the 10th Annual Contest is that this year’s bowl contest hosted by the World Cup of Skateboarding will be held at the new Lake Cunningham Regional Skatepark in San Jose, CA on Sunday, September 28, 2008. The Lake Cunningham Regional Skatepark opened early in 2008 as the largest skatepark in California at 68,000 square feet. The park also features the world’s longest full pipe, tallest vert wall and largest cradle. The street contest will be held at the Scotts Valley Skatepark created in memory of Tim Brauch on Saturday, September 27, 2008. As with every year, riders from all over the West Coast will come to this contest to have a great time and skate in memory of Tim Brauch but this year we are expecting the largest attendance to date. This contest is meant to bring riders and spectators together to have fun and give back to our local youth. ”Giving back to the local youth was a big deal to Tim. He understood the amazing connection we have with one another, all of us. No matter where he traveled (and boy did he travel), from the schoolyards of his hometown San Jose to the big city streets of Tokyo, Tim always had "the time" to share. People mattered to Tim, especially the young ones. When it came to the true values in life, Tim had it all figured out. He was constantly on the radar while skating and all the kids around him would always feel compelled (and at the same time comfortable) to approach him. Tim respected the kids with an absolute guarantee... without a doubt, stamped! But why would someone in Tim's shoes, a pro skateboarder, care so much about the kids? Simply because he was one of those kidsSessions Presents The 10th Annual Tim Brauch Memorial Contest September 27 - 28, 2008Scotts Valley, CA, August 25, 2008- For the past nine years, Sessions has held the Tim Brauch Memorial Contest in memory of Tim Brauch who was one of the most respected skateboarders and beloved Sessions’ team riders of all time. Simply because he was one of those kids.

Always one to lead by example he would not only show the younger skateboarders how to bluntslide anything in their path... he'd show them the positive way to interact with others and give due respect while having an absolute blast! Co-existing with good intention. Tim could've written a book. Entering the Tim Brauch Memorial Contest helps our youth in more ways than one. The Tim Brauch Skateboard Contest is a place for letting style show. A place where kids are free to be who they are and go with the flow of the come-what-may. Creation is not capped and on their skateboards - expressions are shown, not spoken. In Tim's memory it's essential that everyone participating shows up with their hearts. Skate fast and bring your hustle. The 10th annual... it's gonna be all-time!” –Scotty Greathouse Registration for the 10th Annual Contest can be made online through www.sessions.com or at the event itself, but make sure to arrive early as the competition fills up fast! See www.timbrauch.com for details on scheduling. Come check out this year’s event taking place September 27-28, 2008 there will be plenty of food, music, raffles/prizes, and pro appearances. Sponsors include Sessions, Etnies, Red Bull, Fuel TV, Wahoo’s Fish Tacos, Skullcandy, Dragon, Dakine, Transworld, Thrasher, and Hanes. More about Sessions at www.sessions.com ABOUT THE TIM BRAUCH MEMORIAL FUND: The Tim Brauch Memorial Fund is an independent scholarship fund and skateboard park development fund established in 1999. The fund was created to continue to keep giving back to the kids and the sport of skateboarding that Tim loved so much. Our vision is that through skateboarding kids develop discipline, confidence, motivation, and other traits that encourage success. ®

Progression & Injuries

Lincoln and Danny have seen there share of injuries. Progressing skateboarding through the years. Getting paid to play. More that just money, living a dream.

Progression has no boundaries, the body will follow the mind. The heart of skater puts his body on the line. Skateboarding has its lows and highs, coming back from injury for the love of skateboarding and nothing else. call it what you like, doing it for yourself, getting up from a slam or a fall in life is a lesson for all of us to learn. Dylan Taylor knows it and still loves to skateboard! Be it street, pool, bowl, mega, mini-ramp, vert, freestyle, longboard, cruising. You are a skateboarder, one word to describe what we all like to do.

Lea Taylor loves to skate, have fun, go fast and be with friends.

Grind For Life #3 Photos / Timeline & Steaz in their Home Park no matter who Manages it!!!!!!!!!

Peel off the stickers, take down a picture of a Local Pro who worked hard for respect and a company that dedicated personal finance and time. Tell a few stories about the real locals who supported and worked a lifetime to build a park and bring events to it. Stir up a few parents and scare them, tell them the kids will suffer. Take a City system personally and what do you have. Hometown company coming back never forgetting their roots. No worries! Its all about skateboarding, young & old. The young ones will get old, skating with the next generation of rollers. It's the old ones that will sit on the Commissions, Judge the Courts, Police the Cities, run the Parks. Maybe a President with a back yard ramp at the White House for his kids. The old passing the torch and young progressing the lifestyle!

See you next time, Timeline will still cover your event and be their when we can. When someone tells you we are to busy or we will never be their. Look around, the Mini-Ramp came from a back yard before the skatepark was built, the Cocoa Beach name will travel the World, even when the current management of the park will not recognize it.

The Crowd staying cool under the shade.
