The Healthy Beverage Company, maker of the Steaz line of green teas and energy drinks, won on Friday the 2007 Socially Responsible Business Award, one of the natural products industry's most prestigious honors. The Newtown, Pa.-based company’s founders, Eric Schnell and Steve Kessler, were chosen in recognition of the firm's socially responsible business practices, which include supporting sustainable organic farming and strict observation of fair trade standards in their sourcing of Ceylon green tea from Sri Lanka and acai fruit and other organic ingredients from the Brazilian rain forests. The award ceremony took place at the 13th annual Socially Responsible Business Awards Breakfast at the Natural Products Expo East in Baltimore last week. The Healthy Beverage Company is a pioneer in the natural beverage category with its line of Steaz Sparkling Green Teas, Diet Sparkling Green Teas and newly expanded line of Fair Trade Certified Steaz Energy drinks. All Steaz beverages are 100 percent micro-brewed from the finest organic Ceylon green tea and contain the benefits of a full cup of green tea in every bottle or can. As part of the company's ongoing support of fair trade and humanitarian programs, Steaz donates two percent of net profits to social betterment programs. The firm's "We CAN Make a Difference" campaign raises funds to rebuild homes in the tsunami-ravaged regions of Sri Lanka .
