The Protec Pool Party was the gnarllist progressive skateboarding in a Pool that I have ever seen. The sauce on the coping was hot and the competition insane. It was Punk Rock, Rock-In-Roll and Hip Hop, the food was free and the host himself Steve VanDoran at the grill cooking and serving up Hamburgers and Hot dogs. That is why they call it a pool party. The best Skateboarders in the world, industry and company VIPS all over the deck, and living legends still ripping. The best all purpose skateboarders in the world battling it out for the $25,000 Pro First Place Purse. Rune Glifberg winning for the second time and Bucky Lasek with a close 2nd place. So many great names, tricks and near collisions, crisscross action that would make a traffic cop quit his job! No one got injured or hurt and the crowd knew they had just watched something special! Just to get in was an honor, it was a privilege to be there, so many legends ripping, watching and judging.The Masters were pushing their bodies, Chris Miller won for a third consecutive time weaving through traffic and making every run count with style for miles. Buck Smith took a hard slam, got out of the pool, cleared his head and finished 8th place. Lance Mountain 2nd and fellow Bones Brigade member Steve Caballero 3rd. The Women were showing what they could as well. Cara Beth Burnside winning again for the third time. The rest of the ladies pushing her . Women's skateboarding is alive and well with a young gun group progressing. Dave Duncan the voice of World Cup keeping the party alive, everyone there was stoked, people on the edge of their seats or standing up. No run, heat, or competitor held back no matter what the age. The Grand Master 45 yo Duane Peters still killing it, the original Punk Rocker, The Master of Disaster, pushing all the Masters, covering every inch of the deck and pool. East Coast / West Coast, they were all their putting on the greatest show of the day in the sports world. Some may say skateboarding is not a sport, call it what you want, all the skaters there are the toughest, most committed, athletic, fast rolling, passionate and individualistic people on the face of the planet. There are not many jobs or lifestyles where you can take the body and mind to its limits. Whatever you do in life when you left the Pool party, you wanted to do it better. If you watched online or were there, go back to your local skatepark turn up the progression a notch; let them know what you witnessed. Get slammed and get back up show your local community and leaders what skateboarding is all about. Contest skateboarding is an artistic display and a celebration of skateboarding... Skateboarding truly is an expression of life. Mike Rodgers taking the opening run, he is truly an inspiration to all, a legend, knowing him is an honor. He has done so much for skateboarding in Florida and around the world. He is an Ambassador of Skateboarding a two time Cancer Survivor still rolling and ripping with the respect of all his peers. The Protec Pool Party is a premier event and I hope they can keep pulling it off !
